Kungsbacka International Tournament

The 4:th stop for the 2003-04 Super Series campaign was held in Kungsbacka situated in the south-west of Sweden. 237 players from 14 countries took part and in total just above 500 entries was recorded, amazing!

Or Aviram, the international star from Israel, took the last qualifying spot with his 1320 over the six games. The highest qualifyer was for the first time a woman, and for the first time a female bowler shot a perfect game in a Super Series tournament. Helen Johnsson from Sweden was the recipient of those two achievements steeling the light from earlier leaders Anders Öhman and Tore Torgersen, the PBA-players who just returned from the USA for this occasion.

Helen recived 10 000 SEK for her victory in the qualification and still a good chance for the first price consisting of 100 000 SEK (US13 500) thanks to her seeding-advantage. However, the rising swedish star Niklas Linderholm won a thrilling roll-of decider over Helen who in any case can be very proud over her performance in Kungsbacka.

The final four saw two new faces, the youngsters Osku Palermaa from Finland and Joakim Biehl from Sweden, and two players that has become almost institutional for any TV-final on our tour, namely last years winner Lasse Lintilä and Petri Mannonen who was about to play his third consecutive Super Series-final. Incredible!
First out Mannonen vs. Palermaa. Mannonen in control from the start and Osku just did´nt get the carry. 217-183 in favour for the more experienced Mannonen.

Semi # 2 proved to be one of the more exiting finals ever seen on TV here in Sweden. Lintilä very much in the driving-seat but Biehl never quite gave up and stringed together a four-bagger in the end of the game but still, Lasse "only" needed a mark in the last frame to reach the final. Missing his aim about three boards to the left and maybe also a little bit loose in the ball-speed, 6-10-4-7 is a fact. Who said that bowling is predictable? 201-198 in favour for young Biehl.
The scenario in the final was the same as in the previous semifinal for Joakim. Came off after a bad start and find the carry but Mannonen was glued in the pocket and never gave a real opening for the Swede. After a strike in the 9:th frame from Petri there was no further questions raised. 214-199.
Congratulations Petri, You where a very whorty winner!
