Kungsbacka International 2005 is on the road
2005-12-13

Late at the Monday evening a full squad of players noted the first scores in Kungsbacka International 2005. The Team Pergamon duo Michael Ahlqvist and Martin Larsen scored nearly 1400 and will definitely be over the cut after the qualification rounds.

Mikael Larsson of the team, Falkarna will also make the cut with a round of 1381. But the lefty Marcus “Kiwi” Nyberg would not be sure if he is in our out until the last squad has been played, unless he raise his score 1344, in an re-entry.

The number of registered players when the tournament starts is as high as 230 compared to the 195 participants in 2004. The increase could be explained by the fact that this is the last stop on the European Tour and several of the players is hunting for points in the European ranking standings.

The English duo Darren Cundy and Jo Harries signed up very late and had some problems to find squads on Friday and Saturday. Both of them need final positions high up in the field to get qualified to the World Rankin Masters in Kuwait 2005.

Today’s squads are filled with youngsters. A group of six Finnish bowlers is on a Swedish tour and will compete with six young Swedish bowlers from the Bowling High School in an unofficial international match. The winning team will recieve six entries in the SuperSeries Tour of 2006/2007. Last weekend the Suomis did a real good job in SuperSix in Västerås. Magnus Lönnroth ended up as number 13 in the final and another trio made the cut and was into the Top-32. So the young Swedes have to face a very difficult mission.

In the squads today there are some other very interesting names, players that have the goal to reach high or the highest position in the tournament. Osku Palermaa, winner of Husqvarna International in April is one of the players with potential to win the whole tournament in Kungsbacka. The runner-up in World Cup, Or Aviram of Israel, is very close to his first big victory. Maybe Kungsbacka is the right place for him. Last year he defeated Paul Moor in the quarterfinal by a score of 779 in a 3 to 0 win. But in the semi final he loses to the final winner Oscar Broström 235 to 255.

For the qualification rounds today the organizers very much hope that the external internet problem has been solved today so that the on-line scoring service will work in a better way than it did on Monday.
